Alakol (kaz. Alakul, from ala kul — a bright, colorful lake) is a bitter-salty drainless lake of Kazakhstan located on the Balkhash-Alakol lowland, which is located on the border of the Almaty and East Kazakhstan regions, in the eastern part of the Balkhash-Alakol depression in the south East Kazakhstan. To the south-east of the lake is the Dzungarian Gate Pass. Known as the «healing lake.»

On the western shore of the lake there are resort villages Akshi and Koktum, Akshi 150 kilometers away, Koktum about 80 kilometers from the Kazakh-Chinese border. About 15 km east of Kabanbay is the balneological resort Barlyk-Arasan.

Alakol is amazing water! Unusually soft and velvety, moderately salty, which is able not only to relieve all the accumulated fatigue, but also has healing properties.
